Prison Time

Random thoughts on this mother of all Monday mornings. The sentence has finally sunk into my brain. I’m in for 20 years, no parole. I’m 60 years old. A death sentence for me. That bastard judge laughed at me as he handed it down. Used to be an “investment broker” till my Ponzi scheme collapsed. Then, made my second mistake by beating one of my retiree clients/chumps to a near pulp when he asked for cash out as it was all falling apart. Used to be white-collar and respectable, I thought, at least. Used to be. Those days are behind me now.

Looking outside of the county jail cell this September morning at about 7:00AM, drizzle, sun trying to break through some of the weaker clouds; it’s not winning. I look out of the cell window again and notice the black bus with shaded windows roll into the prison yard. This is the big day. I’m going to state; a jump from the country club life at county jail to the big show of state prison.
