Steve Donaldson enjoyed a four-decade career in the insurance industry. Throughout the years, he worked simple and complex claims investigations, first using not much more than pen and paper and plastic cameras. He moved on to work with basic green screen “dumb computers” and then later used faster, more complex systems that currently benefit the industry and the customers they insure. He’s seen snail-mailed memos replaced by email, and finally, he worked with chatbots and complex algorithms. He now sees society facing an ever-powerful AI presence in everyday life and worries about the dangers of its misuse and manipulation. Where we end up and how it all will look is fascinating to think about. The fiction that Steve has created takes these thoughts a step further.
